INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION :

Mangalore Territorial Circle came into existence in the year 2001. In order to bring about co-ordination between Forest Divisions and to improve the administration Government has re-organized territorial circles. That is Wildlife Divisions, Social Forestry Divisions and Territorial Divisions has been grouped under Territorial Circles. Under the Government Order No.C¥ÀfÃ:20:C¥À¸ÉÃ:2001 ¨ÉAUÀ¼ÀÆgÀÄ ¢£ÁAPÀ:22-10-2001 old circles were reorganized and new Circles were formed. AS part of this exercise, new Mangalore Circle was formed bifurcating the erstwhile Kodagu Circle. Mangalore

Mangalore Circle started functioning from 16-9-2002, in accordance with Government Order No.DPAR/43/FAFI/ 2001 dated 8-8-2000.
Mangalore Circle comprise of Mangalore and Kundapur Territorial Divisions,Karkala Wild Life Division and D.K and Udupi Social Forestry Divisions.The Circle is bound by the Arabian sea on the west and the Western Ghats on the other sides.
Western Ghat Forests are one of the worlds 25 biological hot spots. Forest areas of the Circle falls in Western Ghat forest region. It is noted for its scenic beauty ,forests and wildlife and biological diversity.

Forests occurring on mountains, slopes, ridges and foot hill plains of the circle (Western Ghats) are the catchments to the major rivers which originate and drains through southern Karnataka.Major rivers are Thunga, Bhadra, Nethravathi,Gurupura, Seethanadhi, Chakra, Sowparnika, Swarna, Varahi, Kumaradhara, Payaswini, ,Havanje, Shambhavi, Ennehole rivers, which supports millions of human lives.
